Meet our newest adventure! The Denver Photo Collective! Isn’t she a beaut? Okay, in her current state no she isn’t. But, when we are done with her she’ll be fit as a fiddle ready to make a lot of photographers dreams come true! Especially mine. I fell in love with studio work back in SLC and knew that I just had to open a studio of my own one day. We moved to Colorado and I started losing a little love for my photo work, and realized it was because I was missing the beautiful consistent light of a studio! I also miss the emotion that comes from studio work, because all there is to focus on is the subject, no distractions. For months I searched the city high and low for north facing windows and a good layout. I was getting super discouraged. Todd encouraged me to write an email to one of the building owners we really liked so I did. We struck a deal with the newspaper company occupying this dreamly lit space and paid to help move them to another space. A few emails and visits later the studio is ours!
The light in this space is more than I ever even hoped. Windows galore, from the North and West. It is 1100 square feet, and is currently 5 rooms that we will be turning into four. There will be a greeting/kitchen area complete with a kids play area. A small shooting studio for low key shoots. A “viewing” room where photographers can project images on a big screen for clients to choose their photos. A large shooting studio/ event area that will have white brick (original from the building), exposed and white washed industrial framework for the ceiling, a makeup counter and a few little other surprises. The studio definitely won’t be all white but will be a lot of white.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified. This is a pretty major gamble, and I’m praying we can pull it off. I’m so unbelievably grateful for a man who believes in me more than I believe in myself. He is willing to put his money into this dream while the “dream home” we bought still looks like an unfurnished 80’s mess. Gosh, I love that man.
We aren’t sweating we’ve got a full month to remove a couple walls, 1100 square feet of nasty blue carpet, install floors, change ceilings, paint, change out 1 dozen radiators, buy a shiz ton of furniture, make a website, launch a marketing plan… blah blah blah you get the picture. We got this… I think.
